Heroes of Malayalam


Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair:
Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair: The late Kottarakara Sreedharan Nair was one of India's best actors.His enactment of the role Chembankunju in 'Chemmeen' is one of his best performances.
Satyan: Satyan a soldier, a police inspector and an actor, who left his mark on the Malayalm Film Industry with the role in ‘Chemeen’. Born in a village of Nagarcoil in Tamil Nadu. His work was appreciated and it also won him Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor twice. He had contributed a lot to the Malayalam Film industry.
Prem Nazeer: Prem Nazir an actor born once in a decade was the factory of extraordinary talent. His original name Abdul Khader was born in Thiruvanathapuram, he has registered his name in Guinness record for acting in more than 700 films. He also holds a record for pairing with Sheila in 110 Malayalam films. In his sixty year of career he has worked with about eighty five heroines with some great hits. He was an actor who fits in all roles it may be of a farmer, handrikshaw puller, collie or true blue collar working class. He had done justice to his roles by making it real roles by his acting. He did many things in his long film career he romanced with the beautiful heroines, he roughed the villans, he become an ideal son and also played role of rich spoiled brat. Prem Naseer won the Kerala State Special Jury Award in 1981, other than that he was awarded Padma Bhushan by President of India in the field of acting. An award was also initiated in his memory in 1992 for the excellence in the field of Malayalam Cinema. Legendary stars like Prem Naseer are very rarely born and Malayalam Cinema is lucky to have such a star who transformed the Malayalam film industry.
Madhu: Madhu an actor who took Malayalam Film Industry to great heights by his different roles. Madhavan Nair (real name) started his career as a Hindi lecturer in Scot Christian College. Madu later moved to National School of Drama and while he was there, Ramu Kariat offered him a role for his film Moodupadam. After completing the course he went to Ramu Kariat for his test, but there he got an offer by N.N.Pisharody to work in his new movie Ninmaninja Kalpadukal. This was his debut film in 1963, Madhu did many roles through out his career. He was awarded the Kerala State Film Award in 1980. He also worked in Hindi and Bengali movies his hindi movie 'Saat Hindustani' did well, but the famous of his Malayalam Movie was ‘Chemmeen’ with Sheila for which he received presidents golden medal for great performance. After working in so many film, Madhu moved towards production, direction and story writing, he studied all these fields and contributed his efforts to this. Madhu had a long journey in the industry with acted over three hundred film. Madhu was the owner of the Uma studio, he also got National award for his film Mini in 1955.
Soman:
Sukumaran: Sukumaran an actor who gifted Malayalam Cinema some famous movies like Avalude Ravukal, Shankupushpam, Ahimsha, Spodanam, Manasa Vacha Karman and many more. His contribution lasted from 1977 to 1984 in which he worked in many movies doing some great roles. He worked with many stars of that time, ‘Shibiram’ was his last film which was directed by T.S.Suresh Babu he died in 1997.
Jayan: Jayan a former customs officer, made his debut as an actor in 1974 with the movie Shapamoksham. He got the major break in 1978 with the movie Thacholi Ambu, his pleasing personality and good physique made him the first action hero in Malayalam films. Jayan was also the founder of serious movies in Malayalam with some great performances in a serious role. Jayan became much popular by his own style of acting, he changed the phase of cinema and gave birth to a new era of action and serious films other than romantic movies. His acting career was though not big but he gave some great movies with many directors. He died in an accident on the set of movie Kololakkam he was 40. His death was great loss to Malayalam film industry as they lost a jewl.
Sankar: Shankar who made his debut in 1980 with the movie ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal’, with playing the hero of the movie. His first movie did well and later had many success with many directors like Priyadarshan’s Poochakkoru Mukothi, M Mani’s Engine Nee Marakkum. His first movie was in Tamil, his career was full of great movies which glorified the rich Malayalam film industry. Shakar has now switched his work in TV serials to come closer to the audience and entertain them.
Mammooty: Mammootty the Mega super star of Malayalam cinema contributed a lot to this vast industry. A lawyer by qualification Mammootty had an interest and desire to be an actor from his college days. He appeared for the first time in the big screen with the movie called ‘Devalokam’, sadly the film never released. He stared in 1980 with the film ‘Vilkanundu Swapnangal’ which made his entry to the industry. Mammootty had a good reputation with Director KG George who inspired him and brought out the talent in him. They both did many great films like Yavanika, Aadaminte, Valarthumrigangal etc. Till then Mammotty had established himself in the Malayalam movie world. Mamootty also did many roles in other languages like Telegu, Tamil and Hindi. Mammootty also won several accolades during his flourishing career, he got National award three times for Best Actor and also won six film fare awards for Best Actor and above all he was awarded Padm Shri in 1988 by the government for his excellence in acting. The recent hits of Mammootty are Rajamanikyan, Thuruppugulan, Thommanum Makkalum and Mayyavi and his recent launch Big B. Through out this long journey in the Malayalam film industry Mammootty has played different roles and different looks entertaining the audience with his efforts.

Mohanlal: Mohanlal the superstar of Malayam Film Industry better known as ‘Lalettan’ in the film fraternity started his career while he was in college. His first film teamed up with his friends titled ‘Thiranootam’ unluckily not released due some dispute. But his real break came in 1980 with the film Manjil Virinja Pookkal his role in the movie was of a villan, the film did well, so did the career of Mohanlal. He did many roles in both commercial and parallel cinema. Mohanla was rated as the number one actor of the Malayalam films for his great performences and fans following many times. His few famous films were Kireedam, Bharatham, Iruvar, Vaanaprastham, Thanmatra, Balettan, and Rasatantram etc. Mohanlal also proved his supremacy in Bollywood by acting in movie like Company and his fore coming film with director Ram Gopal Varma. Mohanlal was also the recepient of one of India’s highest honours ‘Padma Shri’ and won National Award twice for best actor in Bharatam and Vaanaprastham. After completing a long span of 28 years Mohamlal is still coming up with many inventions with his roles and shocasing his multifaceted personality. Great going Lalettan!
Suresh Gopi: Suresh Gopi hit the Malayalm big screen in the1980s, but originaly started his acting career as a Child artist in 'Odayil Ninnum’a movie based on a novel duirng 1965. He was better suited for roles of Police officer, for which he was famous for. He did many movies but his major break came with movie ‘Thalasthanam’ in which he was in the lead role. He acted with many big stars like Mohanlal, Nadimudi Venu, Jairam and many others, his way of acting was unique and lively. Suresh Gopi apart from being a good actor is also a good human his charity and noble activities made him famous among his fans. His long career is still in boon and he is giving some good movies to the Malayalm film industry.
Jayaram: Jayram an actor by profession and also is a mimicry artist, and a Chenda percussionist, is well-known face among the family audience. He is famous for his comic roles and is a safe player among the producers and directors as his movies rarely flops. He started off in 1980s and from then he never turned back, he has a career record with some great films like Friends, Kochu Kocuh Santoshangal, etc. Jayaram also have acted in Tamil movies and his work was appreciated. He is married to actress Parvathi and also is a proud father of a son Kalidas, who was the winner of the National Film Award for Best Child Artist in 2003, he also has a daughter Malvika.
Dileep: Dileep a versatile actor of Malayalam cinema, who is now a days most sought out actor in this glamour industry, started his career way back with ‘Sallapam’ as a first step, the movie did well and introduced him to the Malayalam big screen. He had given several great hits working with many directors and stars proving his skills worthy and audience applauding his sincere efforts and entertaining them in various roles.
