Sreekumar, popularly known as Jagathy Sreekumar or Jagathy is a comedian actor in Malayalam cinema. He is considered widely as one of the best comedians in the history of Malayalam films.
Born on January 5, 1951 in Jagathy, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. He is the son of noted dramatist and writer N. K. Achary who, much like his son, is also known as Jagathy N.K. Achary after his place of birth. N. K. Achary was a All India Radio employee.
Even from childhood, Jagathy Sreekumar had the dream of becoming an actor.He has two children: Rajkumar, who is a bank employee and Parvathi (Lakshmi), who is a Law student.Jagathy was a Class V student at Model School in Thiruvananthapuram when he first got the opportunity to act in a play.
By the time he joined Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram he had become an experienced theatre person.However, it was while working as a medical representative in Chennai that he chanced upon the role of a comedian in `Chattambi Kalyani.' His work in the film earned him recognition.
With 1,070-odd Malayalam films to his credit, he is reckoned as one of the best actors in the industry.Jagathy has acted in over 1070 films, which certainly is a world record. But nobody including the actor himself, is able to present the complete list of films that he has acted in.Jagathy has never acted in any language other than Malayalam.
He doesn't have any assistants or secretaries. Jagathy still uses an old car used by his father Jagathy N. K. Achary.Jagathy is a supporter of Indian National Congress and was a member of KSU, students wing of INC. His father was a freedom fighter.
